Overview

As we celebrate another outstanding year for Navy Athletics, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our donors. In the 2018-2019 athletic and academic year, your ongoing support culminated in $2.57 million toward the Fund for Athletic Excellence, which paved the way for the following achievements:

Additionally, the Naval Academy Athletics Association (NAAA) made significant progress on the construction of the Ron Terwilliger Center for Student-Athletes, the renovation of the USNA Golf Course and the improvement of Navy Marine-Corps Memorial Stadium. Your contributions ensure the continued attraction and retention of not only the country’s best student-athletes, but also the most promising future officers. This is a mission with a profound and lasting impact.

Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) Support

The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), located in historic Newport, RI, offers a 10-month course of instruction to prepare students for the challenges of life at a service academy. As part of the physical development of its students, NAPS offers a varsity athletic program that competes against other preparatory schools, junior colleges and college junior varsity teams. NAPS funding supports the professional development and salaries of the NAPS athletic director, athletic trainer and coaches, as well as team travel, food and lodging for students. This past academic year, 200 of these students became midshipmen in the Class of 2023.

Leadership

Recruiting and retaining coaches who embrace the values, ideals and mission of the Naval Academy is a central objective of the Fund for Athletic Excellence. The resources made possible from your contributions are critical to maintaining the highest levels of quality coaching continuity in all of intercollegiate athletics. Demonstrating the talent Navy brings to its athletics programs, several coaches were honored in 2018-2019 for their ability to provide a positive team environment, winning attitude and consistent success. USNA celebrated the following coaches who were recognized as Conference Coaches of the Year:

Operational Support

Operational support covers the broadest range of expenditures for the athletics program, sustaining the margin of excellence by ensuring that all needs for a successful atmosphere are being met. In the 2018-2019 athletic year, this support encompassed:

A portion of the funding also supported athletic development staff salaries. Over the past fiscal year, this staff helped generate more than $2.5 million in gifts toward sport-specific priorities and strategic physical mission capital projects. All investments provide direct benefits to athletes at all levels of competition and greatly improve the student-athlete experience.

Thank You

These remarkable achievements stem directly from the margin of excellence resources created by donor support to the Fund for Athletic Excellence. Your generosity has enabled Navy coaches to enhance their programs, expand their recruiting efforts, provide more opportunities to midshipmen and raise awareness of the unparalleled student-athlete experience at the United States Naval Academy.
